Daniel Naroditsky

Daniel Naroditsky, a US chess grandmaster, passed away at the age of 29, a tragic loss to the chess community. The chess community around the world is mourning the heartbreaking death of Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, who passed away at the young age of 29. Known not only for his exceptional chess skills but also for his kind personality and remarkable teaching style, Naroditsky was one of America’s brightest minds in the world of chess. Players, students, and fans who admired him for his intelligence, humility, and dedication to the game have all mourned his passing. Childhood and the Way to Greatness In the year 1995, Daniel Naroditsky was born in San Mateo, California. From an early age, his love for chess was undeniable. He received instruction in the game from his father, and he soon began to exhibit extraordinary talent. By the age of twelve, he had already made a name for himself in junior tournaments, impressing coaches with his focus and natural understanding of chess strategy.

The World Youth Chess Championship (Under-12) that Daniel won in 2007 marked the beginning of a remarkable career. His dedication to the game grew stronger over the next few years. At just 18 years old, he earned the prestigious title of Grandmaster, becoming one of the youngest American players to reach that level.

Naroditsky was a respected opponent due to his calm style of play and ability to anticipate multiple moves. He graduated from Stanford University, balancing professional chess and education with remarkable discipline, demonstrating his intelligence not only on the chessboard but also in his academic accomplishments. The Teacher and Mentor: Moving Beyond Competition Unlike many chess grandmasters who focus only on tournaments, Daniel Naroditsky believed in sharing knowledge. He dedicated a large part of his career to educating new players, making chess more accessible to people of all ages.

He became widely known for his YouTube videos, Twitch streams, and online lessons, where he explained chess tactics, strategies, and endgames in a friendly, easy-to-understand manner. His viewers often described him as patient, humorous, and inspiring — someone who made even complex chess ideas simple to grasp.

In addition, Daniel was a coach at the Charlotte Chess Center in North Carolina, where he guided young players and encouraged them to enjoy playing chess rather than be afraid of competition. His teaching methods and online presence helped bring thousands of new players into the world of chess, especially during the rise of online chess platforms after 2020.

The Sudden and Heartbreaking News
Throughout the world, Daniel Naroditsky’s death shocked fans. He died unexpectedly in October 2025, according to reports, but his family has not disclosed the exact cause of death. They have requested privacy during this painful time.
From fellow grandmasters, fans, and organizations, tributes poured in. The U.S. Chess Federation called him “a brilliant player, a creative mind, and a kind soul.”
Popular streamer and fellow GM Hikaru Nakamura wrote, “Daniel loved chess, teaching, and helping others understand the beauty of the game. His loss is beyond words.”

Social media was filled with emotional messages from fans who credited Daniel for inspiring them to play chess or improve their understanding of the game. Many described him as “the teacher who made chess fun again.”

Legacy That Will Never Fade
Although Daniel Naroditsky’s life was tragically short, his contributions will continue to shape the future of chess for years to come. He represented the new generation of grandmasters who combined traditional chess skill with cutting-edge teaching tools and technology. Through his online lessons and chess commentaries, Daniel brought the game to millions of people who might never have stepped into a tournament hall. He was one of the most popular chess teachers of his time thanks to his clear explanations and enthusiasm for the game. Even after his passing, his recorded lessons, articles, and game analyses will continue to teach and inspire. Chess enthusiasts around the world are calling for tournaments and scholarships to be created in his name — a fitting tribute to someone who gave so much to the community.

Remembering the Game’s Creator Daniel Naroditsky will be remembered not only as a grandmaster but also as a gentleman — humble, intellectual, and always eager to help others improve. He once said in an interview,
“Chess is not about winning every game. It’s about understanding, growing, and sharing that understanding with others.”

Those words perfectly reflect the way he lived his life. For Daniel, chess was never just a competition — it was a form of connection, a bridge between minds and generations.
As the chess world continues to mourn his loss, it also celebrates the incredible journey of a young man who transformed the way people see the game. His influence, both on and off the board, will live on through the countless players he taught, inspired, and encouraged

Bruno Fernandes has no interest in moving to the Saudi Pro League at the end of the season, BBC Sport understands.

The Portugal midfielder rejected huge offers from Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad last summer in order to stay at Manchester United.

Sources close to the United skipper have completely rejected recent suggestions he is ready to quit Old Trafford after the World Cup next summer and accept a Saudi offer.

BBC Sport has been told that is not the case and Fernandes, whose United contract runs to 2027, with the option of an additional year, is only interested in playing in major European leagues.

As it stands, he is fully committed to United. The project under co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is a long-term one and sources say Fernandes is determined to put everything into helping United towards a better future, while also believing it is possible to secure a top-five finish that could earn a place in next season’s Champions League.

The 31-year-old has been used in a deeper midfield role this season, with manager Ruben Amorim believing Fernandes can be more effective because he gets on the ball more often, although some argue it takes him away from the opposition goal where he is more dangerous.

He remains one of the most influential players in United’s squad and in last month’s win against Chelsea scored his 100th goal for the club on his 200th Premier League appearance. In total he has played 298 times and Amorim stressed his importance to his squad after the Chelsea game.

“He deserves all the praise,” said Amorim.

“That guy deserves to be in the history of our club, not just for what he does but for what his team conquers.”

The majority of Enic used to be owned by British businessman Joe Lewis but in 2022 he handed ownership to the Lewis Family Trust and is no longer involved with the club.

The Lewis family have been at the forefront of much hierarchical change at Tottenham over the past few months, and the club statement adds that “this additional capital is part of the Lewis family’s ongoing commitment to the club and its future”.

A source close to the family said: “This is initial additional funding. As the club’s management decides what’s needed to deliver success, more money will be available. The Lewis family is committed to backing the club to be successful.”

Since Levy stepped down there have been three expressions of interest made about taking over Spurs.

The latest was made by American tech entrepreneur Brooklyn Earick, who ruled out making a formal takeover bid after Tottenham insisted the club was not for sale.

The game against Manchester United will be the first played by the Everton women’s team at the club’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 52,000-seat arena on Bramley-Moore Dock was opened in the summer and is the regular home of the men’s team.

Everton women have moved into Goodison Park, the previous men’s stadium, but this weekend will play at Hill Dickinson while the Premier League breaks for international fixtures.

A club source told BBC Sport that currently only the lower tier of seating, with a capacity of around 20,000, will be open at Hill Dickinson. However, there is scope to open other areas of the stadium if there is high enough demand for tickets.

The record attendance for an Everton women’s match is 22,161, who attended a WSL game against Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park in March 2023.

“I think it is going to be a very good atmosphere. We are going to go out there and put everything on the line,” Sorensen said.

“United are the best we have seen in the past couple of years since I have been here. We are going to go in and enjoy it in a big stadium. From what I hear, it is a big crowd. We are all excited for it.”

This weekend’s East Midlands derby against Leicester Tigers will be Smith’s first game since the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, having completed his mandatory rest period.

He described the experience as “an absolute privilege”, while admitting to being frustrated with his performances on the pitch.

“When I reflect on it, no one can take that series from me,” he said.

“It is the pinnacle of the sport, but I have enough self-awareness to realise I didn’t play my best rugby on tour and it didn’t go as I would have liked.

“But in terms of the experience, the scale, being around the best players in the world is such a brilliant thing.

“Whilst I might have been on one hand frustrated, what can I learn, what can I take out of it and bring back into this season, how do I keep getting better? It starts this Saturday.”

Northampton expect to welcome back all of their four Lions players – Smith, Henry Pollock, Tommy Freeman and Alex Mitchell – to take on the Tigers.

“I am desperate to play well but I am well aware that if you try to pull rabbits out of hats and have the best game of your life it will go the other way,” Smith said.

“I need to stay nice and calm, do my job and hopefully that will lead to me performing well and impressing the powers that be.

“Graham is just one of the nicest people in the world and he doesn’t understand why people care about him,” says Tilly Cumming – the foundation’s clinical lead.

“I think it must be something that is very difficult to get your head round, when you are very driven and your job involves a lot of physicality – to have a high-level spinal injury that means all of that is taken away.”

Despite being told by a spinal-cord consultant that he will never walk again, Lee remains adamant it could be a possibility.

“Although he could be right, I’m not willing to accept that,” he says. “Hopefully science somewhere, some day, sooner rather than later – something will happen.”

The irony of being injured on the Flat, when there is a greater risk in jump races, is not lost on the former jockey.

“It’s mad. There’s no rules, when you think of the falls I took, which every jump jockey gets, and I had a lot of bad injuries,” he adds.

“Bones heal, some bad head injuries which all healed, and then you get a fall on the Flat, not even in a race, in the stalls, and I’ve hit the deck from five feet, and this doesn’t heal. And this is what is a complete mind warp.

“It’s so difficult for me to get my head around what has happened. I never sat still. But the only good thing to come of my injury is I’ve met some incredible people, that I’ve never met before.

“We keep going, we keep hoping something will happen somewhere because if you don’t have hope, you’ve got nothing.”

The 31-year-old top-order batter made 105 off 91 balls in his side’s One-Day Cup defeat by Tasmania, just three days after he scored 160 against the same opponents in Australia’s red-ball competition, the Sheffield Shield.

He also scored 130 off 118 in Queensland’s One-Day Cup opener against Victoria in September.

Labuschagne, who has compiled 11 centuries in 58 Tests, was dropped from Australia’s Test squad for July’s series against West Indies.

He faces competition from the likes of Travis Head, Sam Konstas and Nathan McSweeney to force his way back into the side, possibly as Usman Khawaja’s opening partner.

Australia left Labuschagne out of their squad for this month’s one-day international series against India, but called up top-order batter Matthew Renshaw.

Labuschagne has not scored a Test century since July 2023 – a knock of 111 against England – and is averaging just 24.74 in the format since then, but he attributes his upturn in form to taking his game back to basics.

“I felt good out there,” Labuschagne said after his Shield century against Tasmania.

“I feel like I’ve really stripped it back and my focus is just scoring runs. It’s not really too technical – just what I need out there to score runs.”

The first Ashes Test is scheduled to begin on Friday, 21 November in Perth.

England have already named their squad for the Ashes but the Aussies are not expected to announce their party until closer to the first Test.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino wants football to keep an “open mind” about when World Cups are played.

The tournament has traditionally been contested in the northern hemisphere’s summer months – though the 2022 competition, in Qatar, took place in December to avoid playing in the hottest conditions.

“We have summer and winter and in the world if you want to play at the same time everywhere you can play in March or in October,” said Infantino, who runs the sport’s world governing body.

“In December you cannot play in one part of the world and in July you cannot play in another part.

“We need to consider all these elements and let’s see how we can make it better for everyone.

“Maybe there are ways we can optimise the calendar. We are discussing. We have to have an open mind.”

The international match calendar is fixed until 2030, with the United States, Canada and Mexico hosting next year’s men’s World Cup in June and July.

Morocco, Portugal and Spain host the World Cup in 2030 – with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay holding matches to mark 100 years since the first World Cup was held in, and won by, Uruguay.

Saudi Arabia will host the tournament in 2034.

Meanwhile, Infantino also confirmed Fifa’s desire to further grow the Club World Cup.

The US hosted an expanded 32-team tournament during a major heatwave in the summer, with temperatures in New York reaching a record 39C in June.

This drew criticism from footballers and players’ unions, who raised issues over player welfare and the number of games adding to a packed calendar.

Professional Footballers’ Association chief executive Maheta Molango said in July the competition was devaluing football.

Chelsea beat Paris St-Germain in New York to claim the title.

Infantino, speaking at the European Football Clubs’ general assembly in Rome, said: “When the Champions League was created the first revenue was 40m (euros), now it is 4bn (euros). If the first Club World Cup generated 2bn (euros) in 30 years we should generate 200bn (euros).

“This has created revenues for the clubs. Now we work together to see how we can make it better, bigger and more impactful in collaboration with the clubs and stakeholders because it will benefit everyone.

“I’m biased but it was a huge success from every possible angle. We had 2.5m spectators in the stadiums. We had an average [attendance] of 40,000 and only the Premier League is doing better.

“There is interest in the entire world and we need the interest to boost the national leagues, the European and global competitions.”

Palestinians have flooded the streets of Khan Younis, Gaza, celebrating after United States President Donald Trump announced the initial phase of a ceasefire plan between Israel and Hamas would proceed.

Jubilation spread throughout the city as Palestinians expressed optimism that the prolonged, devastating Israeli genocidal war might finally conclude.

The comprehensive 20-point plan, initially revealed on September 29, outlines the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a ceasefire, Hamas disarmament, and Gaza reconstruction efforts.

In northern Gaza City, residents assembled outside al-Ahli Hospital to celebrate the impending ceasefire agreement. The crowd chanted takbirs and performed prostrations in gratitude, displaying relief and happiness following weeks of severe conflict.

According to the Health Ministry, at least 67,194 Palestinians have been killed and 169,890 wounded in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

The Israeli military resumed its Gaza offensive on March 18, disrupting a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established in January. Since then, 13,598 Palestinians have been killed and 57,849 injured.

The new ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is scheduled to begin on Thursday, following extensive mediation efforts in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces genocide allegations at the International Court of Justice regarding its military campaign.
